The Spanish space industry is one of the most dynamic technology sectors in the country, with a strong commitment to research, development and sustained growth that already exceeds €1.065 billion (+14% year-on-year). In this context, the TRATASAT project addresses one of the sector’s key challenges: ensuring the reliability and sustainability of space systems through the development of advanced surface treatments free of critical substances.

ASENSE’s contribution

ASENSE participates in the project with two complementary lines of work. On one hand, in the simulation and validation of stray light through the design of an optical demonstrator, evaluating out-of-field spurious light and its impact in the visible and near-infrared ranges. On the other hand, in the manufacturing and experimental validation of alternative super-black coatings, comparing their performance against conventional solutions currently in use.

Towards more sustainable treatments without compromising performance

The project focuses on replacing current solutions with more sustainable alternatives, without compromising mission performance. TRATASAT thus contributes to the development of tools and technologies that ensure more robust and effective treatments for future space missions, laying the foundations for a new generation of more reliable and environmentally responsible systems.
